My longtime friend Carissa (zygopetalum) works for the Department of Safety (DoS), a non profit arts venue and collective established and run completely by its residents. "Since its opening in June 2002 the DoS has hosted a myriad of shows and art openings, ran numerous community workshops, and been an integral part of What the Heck Fest. The Department of Safety is supported solely by the shows it hosts and the fund raising efforts of its residents. Proceeds from the Auction go back to support a creative environment for the community in form of venue upkeep, dark room equipment, and the Artist in Residence program. In addition, this year the DoS is also raising funds for our workshops, a project to help bring art into the community via outreach to various age, proficiency, and income levels."


Carissa is looking for artists to donate work to the DoS annual art auction and she is also working on an Exquisite Corpse project, where she mails and distributes different packets to various artists for a collaborative group show; Exquisite Corpse.
