heh, i had originally planned "realistic flowers"/fakey heart on one arm, "realistic heart"/fakey flowers on the other arm, but just tried my best to make one look good.

i love it. it'd be gorgeous on the back, where the actual heart is placed!
your colors are different here, did you use different pens?

yeah a coworker found a green ballpoint and i conned it off of her. in the heart area i did my normal thing, but differently. specifically, i held back on the red, and didnt gesso it so much so it stayed more red/orange vs. pink. then instead of making marks with my busted felt tip pen, i marked on a different sheet, spit on the brush, then transferred a little bit of pigment at a time.

instead of gesso'ing over black ballpoint to make it purple, i left it black which i dont normally do anymore. lastly i started to lose the right side, it was busted so i reddened it up, then gesso'd it over, giving it that liver purple color.

sry bout the bad quality photo, she won't give me a new one because she hates me and my people.

ariel, if you read this, i'm going to insist that you're an eric-racist until you take a better photo!

i love your heart drawings! but is this due to the photo poor quality or aren't your projects too nuanced for a tattoo? i have this feeling your original drawings are far more subtle in colour & layering. ahh, beautiful, anyways:)

This is mindblowingly beautiful.

Could you share a bit of the process with me?

Sure!
keep in mind that i drew this a bit different than i normally would draw.

from above:
"in the heart area i did my normal thing, but differently. specifically, i held back on the red, and didnt gesso it so much so it stayed more red/orange vs. pink. then instead of making marks with my busted felt tip pen, i marked on a different sheet, spit on the brush, then transferred a little bit of pigment at a time.

My normal thing = start out with red ballpoint and render, then build up very light layers of red and black ballpoint, then eventually a light layer of gesso. I make some slight marks with a dried up black felt tip pen that bleeds when wet, that lends some of the blue. the gesso + red + black ballpoint gives the purpley color. if you try this, be careful not to draw over the gesso too much, it will fade more over time than ballpoint on paper.

someday i'll make one of those you tubes that everyone talks about.

Thank you so much for sharing!

A youtube video would be awesome! I do not quite get what you're talking about, and I'd love to know how you're able to get such lovely subtle colouring done. (the texture on the heart is incredible. it looks fit to burst)

Hmm... what is this "gesso" you speak?
