i used to use really nice or expensive paper, some stuff that was hard to track down. you're going to laugh, but this is bottom bracket cheap strathmore series 500 series 'pure paper tints' tinted paper. it takes ballpoint perfectly and has a bit of a tooth to it. more hot press than cold. it doesnt even list what # it is, but if i had to guess i'd say 90#~

i started using this because for a while i was drawing on the back of NRA target paper (pew pew). i ran out of that and this was the closest replacement i could find. it may be junky, but it's inexpensive and archival and let's me work a few wet layers before it completely self destructs.

I appreciate the offer, but I live in Chicago, how does that work???

Stories with humble beginnings make me feel a little less hopeless, ha.

you ship something to wherever. i'm shipping things to australia on monday...

i get show invites emailed to me sometimes, or local galleries are fleshing out groupshows. if it's anything local to me, i'd be happy to help you out where i can.

an invite was emailed to me the other day with a deadline of nov 5th, i'm not going to do that one as i'll be hustling to get out of town. do you want to check it out? it's a digital to print entry so you wouldnt even have to ship anything.

oh man, don't think I have anything high enough quality in digital for a show like that, let alone something I'd want to show. But yeah! if you have something to pass along please please let me know. You're in CA, yeah? What part?

zmg! both of those were huge influences when i was little. i taught myself how to draw like the scary stories guy in junior high i think. i used to blow ink everywhere with different straws and stuff :)

haha i watched akira like every day in elementary school, and LOVED those scary story books too. is the ink blowing method what Gammell uses?

(adding you!)

ink washes, blowing ink and I would also draw away from a pool of ink.

The part where tetsuo inflates to the size of a building always inspired me.

I've been looking at your drawings for a few months and I still can't understand them. They're great and confuse me. I can read into some of them but mostly not.

i'm trying to work away from understandable 'objects.' for a long time i was doing pretty rote, i drew a barn, it looks like a barn type stuff. now i'm drawing and expanding and trying to work with little islands and peninsulas of drawing that on a whole work together.

i like to leave a little bit of 'readable' in them, so that people can at least anchor themselves to an idea. mostly it doesnt matter what i or anyone else do, because people bring their own baggage and interpretation to everything.

cheers!
